Dear Patients, Doctors, and Staff:
Effective April 16, 2024, I have initiated the transition process into full retirement from the clinical practice of Endodontics and Dental Sedation/Anesthesia. This decision comes because of ongoing health issues, specifically spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, chronic pain and balance issues. My Orthopedic and Neurosurgeon have advised me to cease clinical practice immediately to prevent further deterioration of my condition. I am scheduled for my second lumbar back surgery in July 2024. This procedure will involve the placement of two Stalif-M vertebral disk implants and fusion of the L-4 to S-1 vertebrae to stabilize the spinal column. This is contingent upon my complete cessation of clinical practice to focus on my physical and neurological recovery which will take several months.
On May 15, 2024, my dental facility was sold to Dental Specialty Center of Brandon, LLC (William A. “Trey” Mueller, DMD). My association with Trey goes back to the early 90s when I treated his father, Andy, which helped spark Trey’s interest in dentistry. Trey now owns and operates numerous dental practices across several West Central Florida Counties and intends to utilize my facility for dental specialists, particularly treating patients requiring deep sedation/general anesthesia.
My facility was recently re-inspected and certified on March 3, 2024, by the Florida State Board of Dentistry at the Moderate/General level of anesthesia. It will continue to function in this capacity, maintaining a culture of patient safety. I have full confidence that Dr. Mueller and his staff will uphold the highest standard of quality and safety in future patient care.
It is with deep regret that I must retire from caring for some of the most challenging yet rewarding patients that I have ever encountered in my 42 years as a licensed DDS. I will also be resigning from my part-time teaching position at UF for similar reasons. I look forward to a new phase of life, freedom from pain, pursuing personal goals, and primarily spending time with my wife, Susan, and our three children, Michelle, Nicholas, and Michael. They are the loves of my life.
I thank you for trusting me to care for your Endodontic and Anesthesia needs. It has been an honor and privilege to do so. I am also grateful for the collaboration and support of all talented providers and staff members, whose remarkable skills have contributed to the successful completion of thousands of Endodontic cases with the aid of anesthesia.
Sincerely,
J. Tim Russin, DDS
